Chef’s Table Event at the Table Bay, Cape Town
Eating at any Chef’s Table is a treat, period! For a passionate foodie like me, it is like walking through an art gallery if your were to be an artist. I look, sniff, smell and marvel at every single morsel plated so skillfully by the chef and his team. This time the event was somewhat different, somewhat better……
The invitation to this prize event was already different! Any invitation that states “bring an overnight bag” gets my attention immediately. So after a long and tiresome morning cooking for a fundraiser, hubby and I sat in the lounge, tapping our feet as we eagerly awaited the arrival of our own private chauffeur. Needless to say, all the men, went crazy when this baby rocked up!
On arrival at the Table Bay Hotel, the camera crews were waiting and clicking away. Silly me thought: “Wow, there must be someone famous coming to this place tonight!” To my surprise, we were the famous people and that pretty much set the scene for the rest of the afternoon and evening.
After meeting all the other bloggers, Jason Bagley, Harry Haddon, Neil Tosefsky and The Bearded Wiseman, we were escorted to the oh-so-elegant presidential suite. Oh my word, what luxury! My husband was content to know that Charlize Theron stays there when she visits Cape Town. After some refreshments we got the keys to our own rooms “to freshen up!” Half an hour later we all met in the lobby to be taken to the chamber of horrors, our own Masterchef-Style Cookoff.
After the initial shock of having only fish as a choice, the cooking was a breeze and although hubs cut his finger in the first three minutes of our allotted 45 minutes, we made a mean team and walked off with the prize for Best Presented Food. (guess all the food blogging paid off!)
After that stressful episode, we left for some much needed R&R and joined up with the rest of the crew for a wine tasting of note. Although I do not drink, I learned a lot about food and wine pairing.
Dinner at the chef’s table followed and we could see how the professionals do it, I feel kind of flattered to know that these professionals chose my dish for Best Presentation!
The winners for the night were: @ninatimm best presentation, @blindcripple most online mentions and @JBagley won best dish.
The highlight of the night of course was dessert and the prize-giving in the Presidential Suite after which we were told that we could all stay for the night. Bliss!
Thank you Sun International and the whole team at the Table Bay for making our stay there so memorable. Every member of staff that we met, were warm, friendly and committed and made us feel most welcome and comfortable.
As a last word, before I end off, Capetonians and those who visit here for holidays, the Atlantic Restaurant is one of the best restaurants I have eaten at in a long time. Although the dinner was superb, not every one would have the opportunity to eat at the Chef’s Table, but the Breakfast Buffet is available to everybody and it is simply out of this world. Everything I would expect of a five star hotel and more……
Thank you Sun International!
